Siblings to raise money for National Deaf Children's Society in honour of baby sister

Two young sisters will be taking part in a fundraising walk with their family and friends. Sisters Olive, five, and Eden, four, will be taking part in a Santa Walk at Shipley Park, Ilkeston on Sunday, December 11, to raise money and awareness of the National Deaf Children's Society in honour of their baby sister.

Clemie, who is almost two years old, was born prematurely and diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence at birth, which resulted in respiratory issues, a cleft palate and moderate conductive hearing loss, and so she wears a bone anchored hearing aid. Their mum, Jodie Roberts-Dadley, 36, of Hucknall, said: "It's really had an impact on our family, and we have a good little community.

"We have a few mums that come together that go to a deaf group that is run by Hear Together. The National Deaf Children's Society has done so much for us as a family, we have weekly sessions with them and they teach us sign language and answer all the questions that we need answering."

Jodie added: "My oldest two are just really wanting to give back just to raise awareness and to raise some funds. It's the first big thing that they are doing.

"It's just amazing that they want to raise awareness really for her, and a charity that has done so much for us." Olive and Eden will be wearing purple Santa hats when they take part in the walk, and so far they have already raised £320 of their £350 target for the charity.

Olive said: "I think it's important deaf children have equal opportunities. I want my sister to be able to do everything I can do." For those that would like to donate, their fundraising page can be found here.
