Part of the fun of golf is all the cool gear you can acquire. And we’re not just talking about golf clubs, but rather all the other stuff that can make golf a special experience that goes beyond your score.
For example, it’s fun to sport a new headcover or even a special golf bag that you might change out periodically. It’s often a reflection of your personality or perhaps your fandom to a sports team. Or what I’m about to talk about here, your enthusiasm for your country.
With that said, I’m particularly stoked about the new Patriot Collection from PING, available only online. All these products have a real clean look. They’re mostly red, white, and blue, of course, and in case you missed it, Americans won all four men’s majors this year. The collection works well around the Ryder Cup or Solheim Cup competitions, too.
And this is indeed a Solheim Cup year, as the best women professionals from the United States take on their European counterparts at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va., Sept. 13-15. The Ryder Cup, pitting the U.S. men’s team vs. Europe, is slated for Sept. 26-28, 2025, at the famed Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
The new Patriot Collection from PING takes on even more significance this year since the Solheim Cup is named after PING’s founder, the late Norwegian-American Karsten Solheim, who was a driving force behind the competition. The U.S. team currently has a 10-8 advantage over Europe, so you can expect the competition to be hotly contested once again. Of course, it’s also an Olympic year, which is even more reason to sport anything that promotes the good ol’ U.S.A. if you're an American.
As for the products offered in the Patriot Collection, I pretty much like all of them. But here are some of my personal highlights:
One of the best sellers right now is a beveled 3D hat ($35) that features large silicone U.S.A. lettering with the PING logo and stars underneath. It has a super clean look and futuristic vibe to it. It features Spandex for a comfortable fit, and is made of Delta Performance Fabric and is vented on both sides for playability and comfort. This hat comes in white and navy blue. The Patriot hat collection also includes a nifty Patriot Tour Snapback hat ($40) that comes in either blue or white camo with a large PING logo.
Another piece that really stood out for me is the Patriot Collection driver cover ($45). The design features hundreds of tiny stars in a camo pattern with five larger white stars against a blue background with debossed U.S.A. lettering on top and an American flag below the PING logo. The outside is polyurethane, and the inside has navy velour lining. The same pattern is also available for fairway woods and hybrids ($40).
The collection also offers knit-style headcovers for your fairway woods ($38) and hybrids ($35). They are adorned with stars and stripes, the American flag, as well as a shimmery pom on top. These covers also provide a good bit of protection for the shafts.
If you really want to make a statement though, you could go all in with the Patriot Tour Staff bag ($595). Adorned with patriotic colors, a camo pattern, U.S.A. lettering, and PING branding, this bag is perfect for anyone looking to bring everything but the kitchen sink to the course (riding, of course) or as a showcase item for your office. It has 13 pockets and pouches, a six-way divider, adjustable padded strap, and rugged vinyl construction.
If you’re one of those players who carries alignment rods with you (and what serious player doesn’t?), the collection has that covered as well. The nifty Patriotic alignment stick cover has the PING logo, light camo pattern and U.S. flag on it, and it’s guaranteed to help prevent poking an eye out.
Finally, there probably isn’t a better way to assert your personality or patriotism than with a putter cover (after all, most golfers are taking off the putter cover and replacing it on every hole.) The Patriot Collection offers both mallet and blade covers (both $45). The mallet cover features PU leather PING Tour logo, a red, white and blue embroidered American flag patch, and a camo pattern formed by hundreds of stars. The blade cover has a similar look. Both of them have a navy velour lining.
The bottom line is that any of these products from the PING Patriot collection will give your golf a new look. Get them all, and who knows, you might get picked for the team. What team, of course, I'm not quite sure.
