'Shouty Stop Brexit Man' attempts to drown out Jacob Rees-Mogg's speech after days of hijacking live interviews on Sky and BBC

An anti-Brexit protester attempted to drown out Jacob Rees-Mogg’s speech outside parliament after days of hijacking live interviewers on the BBC and Sky.

Staunch Remainer Steve Bray, known to some as Stop Brexit Man, was heard shouting “put the nation before your party” as Mr Rees-Mogg addressed the media on Thursday.

The 49-year-old has been regularly seen in the background of live TV reports from outside parliament this week.

He says he has been committed to his cause of getting the anti-Brexit message out there for the last 16 months.

Earlier this week crashed a BBC interview, doggedly adjusting his position to remain in shot as he brandished signs reading ‘Stop this Brexit Mess’ and ‘Things have changed, it’s time to reassess’.

Mr Bray, from Port Talbot, previously said he estimates he has been seen delivering his pro-Remain message on TV "hundreds of times".

He said "I've been here now for over 16 months.

"It's part of the protest. It's getting the message out there.

"Sometimes people post the pictures on Facebook and I'll have a look. It's not about me personally, it's about the message - Remain."

Influential Brexiteer Mr Rees-Mogg, who has delivered a letter of no confidence in Mrs May after her Brexit deal was approved by her cabinet, denied he was attempting a "coup" against the prime minister.

He said a coup involved using "illegitimate procedures" to remove someone from office, while he was making use of Conservative Party rules in an "entirely constitutional" way.

"I am not offering my name as leader," he said. "This is nothing to do with the ambition of Brexiteers. It is everything to do with the ambition of Brexit for this country."

Discussing Mrs May's plan, he said: "This is not Brexit. It is a failure of government policy. It needs to be rejected."
