Following the appointment of Prince William as the new Prince of Wales, there has been a great deal of debate about whether the title should exist. Mark Drakeford said there's "a legitimate debate" to be had, while former Plaid leader Dafydd Elis-Thomas said he believes the title should disappear completely.
William was swiftly appointed to the role vacated by Charles following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8. Almost as quickly, a petition was set up calling for an end to the title altogether. In the past two weeks it has amassed close to 35,000 signatures. The petition argues that the English princes of Wales have had no genuine connection to Wales and that the title "remains an insult to Wales and is a symbol of historical oppression".
