The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a big 24-16 road win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. This one was close right to the wire and every misstep for both teams was magnified. No misstep was more blatant unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by Steelers linebacker Marcus Allen late in the first half.
The penalty gave the Panthers new life on a drive that should have ended and turned into a field goal for Carolina. And it was made worse by the fact that it happened during a timeout when Allen felt for some reason it would be a good idea to saunter over to the Carolina huddle and run his yap to the opposing team.
After the play happened, Twitter lit up with tweets indicating the idiocy of what Allen did and many called for Allen to be cut on the spot and that he needs to find his own way home from Charlotte.
Is this one of those situations where head coach Mike Tomlin needs to set an example of unforced mistakes like this? We want to pass the question off to all of you. Let us know in the comments if you think the Steelers need to release Allen to remind the team how unacceptable this is.
