BJP should have never aligned with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra’s 2019 election: BJP national general secretary

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Vinod Tawde said that his party’s decision to align with the Shiv Sena in the 2019 Assembly election in Maharashtra might have been a mistake as the Uddhav Thackeray-led party could have never digested ‘playing second fiddle’ in the alliance.

“We should have never aligned with the Shiv Sena in the 2019 Assembly election. They (Shiv Sena) could never accept a subordinate role in the alliance,” he told a news channel.

Mr. Tawde said that there were two thoughts on the alliance with Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena. “While some were in favour, some said there was no need. Even I felt the alliance was unnecessary,” he said, adding that the Sena breaking the alliance with the BJP had done long-term damage to the stand of Sena founder, late Bal Thackeray.
