Some people are very happy with the decision of the NBA to retire the No. 6 jersey leaguewide to honor Bill Russell, the late, great Boston Celtics Hall of Fame big man.
Others have complained we ought to do more for our cherished players while they are still with us.
But at least two well-known analysts are making the case the Association ought to go further than a global jersey retirement.
That would be ESPN’s David Jacoby and Jalen Rose, who recently laid out why they think the league ought to hang a banner for Russell in every home arena used by teams in the league to honor Russell’s lifetime achievements on and off the court.
Given his incomparable accolades as the sport’s — and maybe ALL sports — ultimate winner and his support of the U.S. civil rights movement and other selfless advocacy, we certainly don’t think it’s too much.
