Shoukry Visits Washington Two Weeks after Negev Summit

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is expected to meet with his US counterpart, Anthony Blinken, to "intensify communication and coordination" between the two friendly nations.

Shoukry's visit also aims "to exchange visions on the most prominent regional and international issues of common concern," the Foreign Ministry said.

Shoukry will hold talks with Blinken and a number of US administration officials during the visit, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez announced.

In addition, he will meet with members of the US Chamber of Commerce and think tanks in the US.

At the end of March, Shoukry participated in a ministerial meeting hosted by Israel in Negev, which was attended by his counterparts from the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, the US, and Israel.

After returning to Cairo, the Egyptian Foreign Minister refused to consider his participation in the Negev summit as constituting an alliance against any party.

Shoukry said his country’s participation was aimed at “strengthening the peace process.”

A strategic dialogue between Egypt and the United States was held on Nov 8 between Blinken and Shoukry with the participation of representatives from several ministries and associations in both countries.
