Members of a Shotts group enjoyed a trip to the seaside and a big win as part of Befrienders Week.
The Getting Better Together (GBT) team marked the week with clients across the Shotts and Wishaw Locality.
The adult team use the week to highlight how their services are designed to tackle loneliness and isolation and to encourage people to get involved with the activities they run on a weekly basis.
The week of activities included GBT’s first ever adult residential break away.
Twenty-two clients, accompanied by GBT staff, enjoyed a five night stay in Blackpool where they took in the attractions, enjoyed a night at the theatre with ‘The Jersey Boys’, and endulged ins some shopping trips, entertainment nights and much more.
They even managed a successful foray to the bingo, resulting in the group winning just under £800 between them.
The trip was a huge success and plans are already underway for another trip in 2023.
Clients who are housebound received an afternoon tea box to have in the comfort of their home.
Catherine Carson from GBT told us : “Befriending Week offers my team a great opportunity to highlight and promote the fantastic work we do throughout the year with the aim of tackling loneliness and isolation.
“The impact of COVID is still prevalent with our client group and we continue to work to meet the needs of all, whether they are involved within our centre or remain within the confines of their home.
“Our online services continue to be popular with all and often we deliver a blend of both so that those at home feel very much involved in the groups taking part in our building.
“We encourage everyone to get involved in the week and work closely with colleagues across statutory and voluntary sector to ensure details of our services are widely available.”
