Shotts driver aiming to crash into top motor racing series

A Shotts racer is aiming to grab a place in a top motor racing series.

Olivia Whyte is taking part in the Formula Woman competition in Bedford later this month.

Should she be successful she will be racing in some of the UK’s most iconic tracks in the GT Cup driving a McLaren supercar.

“Winning would be the dream scenario,” the 24-year-old told Lanarkshire Live.

“The series consists of nine different races and will include races at the likes of Silverstone and Donington which have both hosted Formula One races.

“The greatest drivers in the world have raced in these tracks so to follow in their footsteps would be incredible.”

The Formula Woman competition consists of not just racing, but fitness tests, media training and meeting sponsors.

Olivia first began interested in motor racing after passing her driving test at the age of 17.

She has enjoyed watching Formula One, the World Rally Championship and the British Touring Car Championship but has never got behind the wheel in a professional capacity.

That will soon change when she arrives in Bedford and has set up a Go Fund Me page to help fulfill her dreams.

She added: “I just fell in love with driving as soon as I got into a car.

“I started watching all kinds of motor racing and it has just snowballed from there.

“There’s only a certain number of places available if I do well in Formula Woman.

“However, it will also give me a variety of opportunities within the motorsport industry, such as karting, media practice, networking and just overall improving my driving ability and competition mentality

“Even if I don’t get further in the competition, I want to continue karting with an aim to take part in the British Indoor Karting Championship next year.

“Unfortunately, motorsport isn’t cheap, and I don’t have the luxury of pumping lots of money into the sport.

“However, I work at Motorpoint and the team there have been great with me.”
