Shotts churchgoers helped raise a smile on the faces of schoolkids and care home residents with an early Easter gift.
Members of Shotts Congregational Church gathered to make up 800 Easter goodie bags which will be distributed to every primary school child in Shotts and every resident at Rosehall Care Home.
Rev Philip Geary, of the Congregational Church, was delighted with the response from his congregation.
He told Lanarkshire Live : “I was very pleased with the way everyone came together.
“The church didn’t need to provide any funds for it as our congregation either bought the chocolate or provided funds.
“It took us an hour or two to make up the bags. It went like clockwork.
“It means every child at Dykehead, Stane and St Patrick’s Primary Schools and the residents at Rosehall Care Home will each get a goodie bag.”
Easter is one of the busiest time of the year for Philip and other ministers.
But he has another reason for looking forward to this time of year.
“It’s always busy in the church at this time,” said Philip.
“On Palm Sunday we have the Dykehead Amateur Band coming into the church to play a few hymns for us.
“We then have services on the Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
“After Easter is over I will be winding down for a while as myself and my wife are expecting our first child.
“I’m currently turning my office into a nursery so it’s an exciting time for us all at the moment.”
