Shotts Bon Accord coach suffers injury in madcap cup shock celebrations as boss savours glamour tie

Shotts Bon Accord moved on to the last eight of the Scottish Junior Cup with a fantastic 1-0 win over Premier Division side Rossvale – at the expense of a coach’s hamstring.

The second-place West of Scotland Football League Conference A side were facing a team in the league above them on cup duty.

But John McKeown’s men pulled off a shock as they left it late to their seal progression and book a quarter-final tie with junior giants Auchinleck Talbot.

Taylor Evans rose from the bench to net a dramatic 88th minute winter and that sparked jubilant scenes which saw coach Willie McElholm suffer a sore one.

Boss McKeown revealed: “Willie McElholm, one of our coaches, pulled his hamstring running up the touchline to celebrate with the boys!

“So I think that he needs training with the boys and some time with the physio. I am hoping that someone got it caught on camera!”

On a more serious note, he added: “It was a great result for us. It was hard-fought and it wasn’t easy for the boys.

“But we all dug deep to get the result. It makes it a bit sweeter when you score the winner late on. Rossvale are a good, young, side and it was quite an even game. I’m biased, but I thought that we deserved it.

“We looked the more likely team to score.”

A big clash with Auchinleck now awaits and McKeown added: “It’s a huge tie for us in the next round. They don’t get bigger for us than Auchinleck. It keeps the season going on and it’s so important for everyone at the club.”

Up next for Shotts is a Kilmarnock Pie West of Scotland Football League cup match against Port Glasgow on Saturday.
