If there’s one thing at the top of every hot-beverage lover’s Christmas list this year, it’s got to be the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser. But priced at £ 99.95 on their own website, it’s a quite expensive splurge, even if it does make the best hot chocolate.
Since its inception in 2018, the models have been featured in almost every Black Friday sale. Shoppers could get discounted models on Amazon, Very as well as Currys and Lakeland, and directly from the Hotel Chocolat website.
But did you know that there’s a way to get one even cheaper - if you know where to look?

Reductions at Hotel Chocolat are usually £20 off a bundle which include the black Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser with four hot chocolate powders. Another bundle which contains the gadget and 10 hot chocolates is usually reduced to £95.50, instead of £110. Meanwhile, the popular copper model was reduced to £84.96 instead of £99.95 last year.
But savvy shoppers can pick one of the popular devices up for just £54.99, when they shop refurbished models on eBay . Many may be sceptical about buying a reconditioned device, but they are verified by eBay after being tested by qualified sellers and function as intended.
Essentially, they’re as good as new for almost half the price - which is why they’re selling out, and fast.
We’ve found the charcoal , copper and platinum models in stock on eBay, but the site warns that they are in limited supply. The price is cheaper than any Black Friday sale price we’ve seen for a Velvetiser, so it’s sure to be popular with Christmas shoppers.
The machine promises to whip up barista-grade hot chocolate and velvety smooth lattes in two and a half minutes, creating cloud-like hot drinks. Users can choose their flavour of hot chocolate to add to the machine, with Hotel Chocolat’s flakes of real chocolate or dairy, plant milk, or water. After this is added users press the button and let the patented velvetising process begin.
It’s not suitable for dishwasher cleaning but Hotel Chocolat says it’s “super-easy to clean” with the whisk being able to come out quickly and easily.
The price includes a refurbished Hot Chocolate Machine with two free cups. It comes complete with a 12 month warranty, and will be in practically new condition, though some may have ‘minor cosmetic marks or scratches and may come in non retail packaging.’
