Shoppers were this morning turned away from a Lanarkshire supermarket following an early hours break-in.

Officers have been in attendance at the Lidl store on Whistleberry Road, Blantyre, throughout the day (Wednesday, November 2.)

Customers told Lanarkshire Live they turned up to find police at the front of the shop and the doors locked to the public.

One shopper told us : "I turned up for my usual shop just after 10am, but police were at the scene and the store is locked down.

"It looked like they were CID so it could be pretty serious."

A Police Scotland spokesman told us : “We received a report of a break-in at a premises on Whistleberry Road in Blantyre around 4.20am on Wednesday.

"Enquiries are at an early stage.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.
