Foodies have been scrambling to get their hands on the latest Iceland product launch that has delighted crisp fans up and down the country. The only problem being is that they’re so popular, many have been struggling to find them in their nearest store.
The frozen food specialist supermarket recently announced the launch of Nik Nak Shredded Chicken in two of the classic crisp flavours - Nice ‘n’ Spicy and Rib ‘n’ Saucy, giving the cult-classic crisp a 2023 upgrade just for Iceland shoppers.
A post on NewFoodsUK earlier this week has already racked up nearly 8,000 comments from customers desperate to try the snack.
One comment said: “Rib n saucy chicken yessss can’t wait to try this”, while another added: “Mate I’m hibernating for the rest of the year with these,” and a third commented: “There goes my diet”.
Some fans are even begging for more flavours already, with one asking: “Where’s the Scampi ‘n’ Lemon?!”.
The £4 bags of flavoured chicken are currently listed on the Iceland website as ‘out of stock’ and, as a result, shoppers have been attempting to make their own version at home - with some pretty good success, too.
One customer posted to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Group to share her attempt, writing: “I’ve seen loads of people wanting to buy the Nik Naks chicken strips from Iceland but I thought I would make my own omg they are soooo nice.”
In the comments, she revealed her recipe, adding: “Chicken breast cut into strips, dipped in mayo or egg yolk, whatever you prefer, and blast the crips in to like a breadcrumb and dip them in there and put them in the oven. They tasted amazing and my husband loved them as well.”
Others rushed to comment on the three-ingredient DIY snack, and loved the idea, with many having the same plan. One said: “No actual way I had the same idea lol Nik Naks £1 a bag from the shop and £4.25 for 1kg of frozen chicken and mayo I already have in. Plus you can make them as chunky as you want cos I think those strips look a bit skinny. This way I can try scampi and lemon flavour ones too lol I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought of this.”
Another added: “They probably taste much better than the Iceland ones too. I'm definitely going to be trying this.”
While a third thought of an even cheaper alternative, commenting: “I might try and make my own from Aldi Nik Nak rip-off ones and make crumbs out of the crisps haha.”
The results looked fantastic, and we think they’d work exceptionally well in an air fryer, too. However, the reason shoppers may be struggling to pick up the new Iceland snack is because they don’t actually launch until next week.
The range, which allows Nik Naks lovers to feast on their favourite flavours at lunch or dinner as well as in snack form throughout the day, is due to grace Iceland’s supermarket freezer and online from Monday, January 30. You'll be able to shop them here as soon as they're available.
