Shoppers in East Kilbride queued early to fill their baskets in the new Matalan store on Friday.
Lanarkshire Live previously reported that the high street giant was taking over the empty TJ Hughes unit in The Plaza.
It is a welcome boost for East Kilbride, which has seen a number of big names such as Debenhams close in recent times.
The impressive 20,000 sq ft new retail space now joins the other roster of shops, leisure and food outlets available and the store enjoyed a busy first weekend of trading.
A spokesperson for Matalan told Lanarkshire Live: "The store opening was a great success with customers queuing outside ahead of the opening and eager to get inside.
"Many customers mentioned the new store was an amazing uplift for the shopping centre due to the closure of other stores and just what East Kilbride needed."
A spokesperson for EK, East Kilbride told Lanarkshire Live: "It was a great day with queues forming early on and the reaction has been really positive.
"This is a fantastic boost to the town centre that will create a number of new jobs, and offer shoppers a new fashion experience with its ladies and children’s ranges.
“Matalan is one of the high street’s biggest names and we are delighted the retailer has chosen to bring its unique offer to EK, East Kilbride."
