Shoppers labelled 'antivaxxers' amid furious threats to boycott Morrisons over new policy

Shoppers are threatening to boycott supermarket giant Morrisons over a new sick-pay policy.

Taking to social media, customers expressed their 'fury' over the retailers new rules.

Earlier this week it was revealed that unjabbed members of staff will face a cut in pay, reports Leicester Live.

Unvaccinated staff who are forced to isolate but test negative will receive statutory sick-pay instead of being paid sick pay by Morrisons.

Statutory sick may amounts to £96.35 per week.

Morrisons is not alone in introducing the policy as a number of major employers will also be implementing the rule.

Staff who have tested positive for the virus will be paid by Morrisons regardless of their vaccination status.

The firm pays staff at least £10 per hour.

Its chief executive Dave Potts first mentioned the policy in a conference call with investors in September, the Guardian reported, as part of a plan to tackle the "biblical costs" of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

But some disgruntled shoppers, who have been labelled 'antivaxxers', have taken to Twitter threatening to boycott the store for its 'discriminatory' new policy.

Writer James Melville wrote: "I will not shop at Morrisons until they drop this discriminatory policy. Boycott Morrisons."

Another person tweeted Morrison saying: "I shopped in your store twice a week - I will never shop there again due to your support of medical apartheid!

"There is absolutely no argument or excuse for you to implement it. Hang your head in shame Morrisons."

"This is discriminatory, immoral and illegal," added a third person.

But other Twitter users think the move was rather ingenious by the supermarket with one commenting: "Morrisons takes a stand against anti-vaxxers. So anti-vaxxers decided to boycott Morrisons. Well played Morrisons. Very well played."

"Have I got this right? Antivaxxers are going to boycott Morrisons because Morrisons doesn't want them to shop there. Is that it?" joked another.

The majority of comments praised the supermarkets new policy for providing a 'safe' place to shop.

One person tweeted: "More room for me down the aisles! Thank you Morrisons."

"Excellent news, helps keep my family safe who work there if the anti-vaxxers go elsewhere," added another.

While a third said: "I need some shopping from Morrisons, now seems to be a good time since the anti-vaxxers aren’t there. *writes shopping list*."
