Shoppers intrigued as IKEA Ireland sells ‘flat pack’ chocolate Easter bunny

IKEA has taken its renowned reputation for flatpack furniture to a new level by selling a build-your-own Easter bunny.

Shoppers have been left intrigued by the edible chocolate product, which IKEA Ireland is selling for a reasonable €3.50.

It could be a great activity for children over Easter, with the milk chocolate bunny coming in three separate pieces to be assembled by hand. No tools are needed.

The product - named VÅRKÄNSLA, which means feeling of spring in Swedish - is part of IKEA's Easter 2022 range.

It’s described as “a three-piece milk chocolate bunny that is sure to please”, with the Swedish appliance store adding, “How fast can you put it together? Once put together, the bunny can be used as Easter decoration. Or be eaten straight away!”

A post on its website reads: “Go ahead, play with your food! That’s what this certified sustainable chocolate bunny is for.

“It’s easily assembled, only three parts. And when finished playing, we bet you’ll enjoy eating it, too.”

The novel idea has left shoppers intrigued, with many praising furniture superstore.

“Once again, IKEA has launched a genius concept in the form of a 'flat pack' Easter bunny. An innovative way of tying your brand to a key holiday (when the two don't necessarily go hand in hand) and providing your customers with something that they'll enjoy. Bravo,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another said: “I really thought that this was some sort of April Fool's joke from IKEA, but no, the flat pack bunnies are real. Groovy.”

A third said: “Of course IKEA's chocolate bunnies are flat pack. Of course I bought two.”

“Nothing but admiration for IKEA for taking a concept all the way with the chocolate,” someone else wrote.

However another wasn’t impressed and questioned if the activity was “cruel”.

They tweeted: “Either this is the pinnacle of flat pack technology or it’s cruel to get kids to assemble their own Easter bunny, I don’t know. Either way, well played.”

Other praised the self-assembly bunnies as “creative” “innovative” and “ingenious”.

You can pick up the self-assembly milk chocolate bunny in IKEA stores across Ireland while stocks last.
