Shoppers fume over ASDA butter pricing and share cheaper M&S alternative

Shoppers have taken to social media to complain about ASDA 's butter pricing, and have said that they would rather opt for a cheaper alternative elsewhere.

Posting onto the Scrimping on a Budget Facebook, an eagle-eyed shopper spotted that ASDA's own-brand blocks of butter cost £2.15 each. This is compared to the £1.75-per-block which members of the group claim they can get at Marks and Spencer.

This comes amid soaring food inflation, which hit 16.2 percent in October. Facebook users stated that they used to be able to get ASDA butter for just 49p in 2021.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the shopper who spotted the butter simply posted: "Madness."

Shoppers said that they would switch to Marks and Spencer after spotting 'disgusting' price of ASDA own-brand butter (Facebook)

One commenter said: "Don't buy it... if shoppers refused to pay this, the supermarkets would be forced to reduce their prices."

Another added: "Absolutely!! Disgusting charging so much. Used to be 49p last year. Won’t use marg or anything else though. Might as well put Castrol on your bread. I’ll go without if it increases any more. Then who will it be sold too?!"

"Ironically if you have an m&s near you they are cheaper like £1.75 or something near there for stick butter," wrote a third, while a fourth agreed: "Cheaper in marks and spencers."

However, shoppers did point out that there are much cheaper alternatives at ASDA, with one suggesting a brand called willow which only costs £1 "and its nicer."
