Shoppers encouraged to open up about their mental health at a positivity tree in the Trafford Centre

Retail and leisure destination Trafford Palazzo has announced a number of new events for May, including the installation of a positivity tree. Launched in tandem with Mental Health Awareness week, (May 9-15), the tree will give shoppers the opportunity to communicate with others, and help those who may be feeling lonely.

Located in the main malls opposite Primark, visitors are encouraged to write a message of support for someone else and place the note on the tree's branches. There will also be a designated seating area around the tree for people to sit and take their time reading the messages.

Kate Holland, senior business marketing partner at Peel L&P said: “We wanted to show our support during Mental Health Week and offer something tangible for our visitors and the Positivity Tree has been installed to generate messages of hope and inspiration. As this year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness is loneliness, we are really proud to establish Trafford Palazzo in conjunction with coffee operator, Second City Coffee, a Chatty Café establishment to welcome people who may be feeling lonely to chat and natter and take the time to read the amazing messages of encouragement and support from the public.”

Meanwhile, on May 5 a tribute performance for Ukraine by Untold Orchestra will be taking place between 6-7pm. The performance by the Manchester-based collaborative orchestra will see 12 musicians playing Ukrainian music along with covers, performed against the backdrop of the Palazzo fountains.

Trafford Palazzo will be teaming up with Bolton Lads and Girls Club - a youth club and charity based in Bolton - to raise awareness and funds for both Bolton Ukrainian Cultural Centre, which forms the Bolton Branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, and Bolton Lads & Girls Club.

Those attending will be able to donate on the day with proceeds going towards the Ukraine appeal and Bolton Lads and Girls Club. An online donation point will also be available via Trafford Palazzo website.

Located over the bridge from the Trafford Centre, Trafford Palazzo - formerly known as Barton Square - is where you'll find Primark, Legoland and Sea Life. The venue was purchased last year by Peel L&P, the original developer of the Trafford Centre.
