A popular Nottinghamshire Post Office is due to temporarily close in a move described as 'devastating' by shoppers. The site in Derby Road, Stapleford, is due to shut on Tuesday, July 19, following the resignation of the postmaster.
The Post Office has said it is working to try and restore its service as soon as possible. Another Post Office for people to access in Stapleford is Montrose Court, as well as this there are other branches in Sandiacre and Bramcote.
However, the closure of the branch has left shoppers upset as they rely on its service and say it’s going to be a big loss to the town.

Liz Kelly, from Sandiacre, says that it will be a loss for Stapleford. The 60-year-old added: “The nearest one is in Sandiacre, and one the other way is Long Eaton. Once that’s gone it’s just going to be nothing - there are no banks.
“It’s going to be a big loss, it's a useful service there isn’t anything to replace. It’s very difficult and it’s not going to be easy.”
Gaynor Warner, 56, owner of Two for Tea in Stapleford, told Nottinghamshire Live that people rely on it due to the lack of banks in the town. She added: “I absolutely do rely on it, all the banks have gone, what are people supposed to do? There’s Bramcote island, the next one is Bramcote Island and Sandiacre.”
Another shopper told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s going to be devastating. People use it all the time. It’s a nice lady that runs it. There's nothing here, everything is in Beeston and it’s not fair. Where do we go?"
Independent Broxtowe Borough councillor Richard MacRae said: “On the High Street we’ve got no banks. The Post Office is the last place anyone can do banking, the Post Office is convenient for a lot of reasons. There might be another business on the high street that thinks I don’t mind running the post office and having the Post Office counter services put in their shops. It would be a different building but would still be on the high street, that's my wish. In the meantime when the post office closes if no one has taken it on there is another Post Office in Stapleford just not in the town centre.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “The temporary Postmaster for Stapleford has resigned and the branch is due to temporarily close on Tuesday 19 July. We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are working hard to try to restore service as soon as possible. The vacancy is advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk and we would welcome applications from retailers. In the interim alternative branches include Sandiacre, Montrose Court and Bramcote.”
