Shoppers applaud Primark's menopause t-shirt and say women shouldn't 'suffer in silence'

Navigating the menopause is an everyday reality for many women, with symptoms often having a profound effect on their lives, but it's still not something that's openly spoken about. One woman was recently left baffled after spotting a 'menopause t-shirt' in Primark, and joked that her mum 'would laugh her head off at this'.

Sharing a video to TikTok, the woman, whose name is Bobi Shields, remarked she didn't know whether the top was 'brilliant or offensive', adding that she wasn't sure whether her mum would be impressed if she treated her to one for Christmas. Others however have been delighted by the useful clothing item, which is designed to alleviate some of the more uncomfortable side effects of the menopause.

In the video, Bobi, who goes by the username @bobishields, could be seen inspecting the top on a rack in Primark and appeared to be in two minds about it. Many of her followers, however, were impressed by Primark helping to shine a light on such an important and under-discussed topic, helping to 'break the stigma for women'.

One person approved: "I think anyone suffering will welcome the help, why should menopause be a secret and we suffer in silence?"

Another commented: "This is actually genius. I would actually be touched if one of my children bought it for me for Christmas."

Others pointed out that Tesco has already led the way in this regard, having launched a lighter, more breathable menopause-friendly uniform for their employees as part of their package of support for those going through this change.

A number of those commenting on the video remarked they too would love to be offered a similar sort of uniform at their place of work, noting that restaurant kitchens and stuffy warehouses can be particularly difficult environments for menopausal women.

Primark has a range of menopause clothing to buy, from cami tops to nightdresses. It appears the top clocked by Bobi is a Menopause Scoop Neck Pyjama Top, priced at £8 online.

According to the website description: "Made using recycled materials, this breathable sleep t-shirt features quick drying and wickable qualities as well as odour control with an antibacterial finish. Hot flushes are managed by the body temperature-controlling properties that help to cool you down and warm you up when needed."
