We've all been in the frustrating situation of arriving at the supermarket only to realise we've forgotten to bring our pound coin for the trolley - but one Tesco shopper has gone viral after sharing an easy hack to unlock them without using one.
After learning the handy trick herself from a fellow shopper, the TikTok user posted a video to the platform showing how it's done in a five-second clip that has since been viewed a staggering 1.4 million times. The video was accompanied by the caption: "When some lady shows you this at Tesco - how am I only just learning this?"
The clip shows the shopper slotting two 20p coins pressed together into the pound slot in her trolley, which immediately makes the lock mechanism click open. The trick could certainly come in handy if you have some loose change but don't have a pound coin on you - and fellow shoppers were impressed with the hack, with several vouching for its success.

"Me and my husband always do this," one person said in the comments section. "I've always done this," another added.
However, some shoppers said that the hack hadn't worked for them and led to their coins getting stuck inside the trolley, so it seems that its success may be a matter of luck. Other TikTok users suggested other methods that they had tried out when they didn't have a pound coin handy.
"You can also use a house key," one person said.
"Use a hair grip," another shopper advised. "Open it up and slide into the part where the chain attaches to the trolley till you hear it click, and then pull the chain out."
A third said: "A pin works too - used to work at Farmfoods and our badges if inserted right while pushing it in unlocks it."
