Shop owner makes sign to explain what happened to her 'official greeters' leg

When it comes to owning your own shop, it's important to create a warm and welcoming environment to encourage customers through the doors. A business owner has taken this to another level by making her dog, Teddy, her store's "official greeter" - and he has proven to be a hit with her regulars.

As Teddy grabs peoples' attention when they enter the store, customers cannot help but to ask questions about him - especially because he is missing one of his front legs. His owner has created a "handy" sign that answers people's most-asked questions about her precious pooch.

He lost his leg at the puppy mill (Reddit)

It reads: "Hi, my name is Teddy! Yes, you may pet me (In fact, I insist). I'm almost three-years-old. I'm some kind of super mutt mix - maybe Pekingese?"

When explaining how he lost his leg, the owner tried to lighten the mood by joking around before sharing what the poor dog endured as a puppy.

It continues: "I lost my leg in a knife fight. No, just kidding, it was a shark attack.

"But really, it was broken when I was a baby at a Texas puppy mill and they never got me medical attention so it had to be amputated when my mum adopted me at five-months-old."

As the store is dog-friendly, the owner ended off with some ground rules on how dogs and their owners should act while browsing her products.

"I don't like when other dogs get in my space while I'm on the counter but if you have a well-behaved, calm dog, I will love meeting them on the floor and on leash," it reads.

"Mum says I'm on a diet so I can't have any more treats."

Commenting on the adorable sign, which has been shared on Reddit, one user said: "Love it. I always ask folks permission before petting their pooch. Thanks for saying its ok."

Another user added: "We all want to meet Teddy."

A third user said: "Honestly, didn't notice the missing leg. I just saw the face, the cute very cute face."

One user said: "Oh I used to have a Teddy too! Yours is just beautiful. I hope he gets all the snacks when his diet is over!"
