Shohei Ohtani just had one of the silliest games of his legendary career

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we’re lucky to be around during the Shohei Ohtani era. What this dude is doing on the diamond is insane and what he did last night was just ridiculous.

Oh, and it was something that hasn’t been done in over 100 years.

100 years!

If you missed it, Ohtani was on the mound last night for the Angels when they faced the Marlins in Miami. He was also hitting third, because don’t all pitchers just do that? No, no they don’t because all those other pitchers are not the great Shohei Ohtani.

The right-handed legend struck out 10 batters and didn’t give up an earned run in seven innings of work. That’s now four straight starts that he hasn’t given up an earned run, which is really darn good. He also only gave up two hits to the Marlins.

Look at these pitches he threw and tell me what you’re supposed to try to do with them:

Ohtani’s two-run single in the fifth gave the Angels a lead that they would not surrender, which is also pretty darn good.

And he also stole a base, because why the heck not?

Ohtani made some cool history in the process.

Ohtani is the coolest baseball player in the world right now and he proves that just about every time he takes the field.

And we should be grateful for that because it’s fun as hell to watch.
