KANCHANABURI: The new skywalk along the River Kwai was closed only hours after it was opened, after running out of the special shoes visitors must buy to enjoy the province's latest attraction.
The skywalk was opened on Sunday.
Muang Kanchanaburi Municipality announced its temporary closure only hours later because it could not provide enough shoes for the large number of visitors.
The skywalk along the river, properly known as the Kwae Yai River, will reopen on Thursday, the announcement said.
The municipality does not charge an entrance fee to the skywalk. Visitors are required to buy footware provided by the local administration for 60 baht a pair to stroll along the 12-metre high and 150-metre-long walkway. They can take the shoes home afterwards.
The new tourist attraction gives visitors a view of the confluence of the Kwae Yai and Kwae Noi rivers in Muang district. The two rivers then form the Mae Klong River, which flows into the Gulf of Thailand in Samut Songkhram.
Kanchanaburi hopes it will be an added drawcard, and bring more visitors to the province.
