Shocking video shows moment boy is struck by car as he runs across Caerphilly town centre road

Shocking video footage has captured the moment a 12-year-old boy was hit by a car as he tried to cross a road in Caerphilly town centre. The collision took place on Nantgarw Road near the Piccadilly pub.

The video shows Connor Ballett crossing the road to catch up with his friends when a car strikes him. His mum, April Thorne, said the car was then apparently driven off, leaving her son injured and in shock. South Wales Police are appealing for information. April, aged 30, said: "We were at home and I had a phone call from a lady who told me Connor had been hit by a car. She said he was bleeding quite badly. We took Connor straight to Ystrad Mynach hospital and they transferred him to the Grange. We had a nine-hour wait. They felt him from head to toe and said there was nothing to worry about - he was very lucky. He was really shaken up and has got quite a bad cut on his knee. There are no visible bruises but his ribs are very sore and he doesn't like to talk about what happened."

The incident happened on Wednesday, December 28, at around 3.30pm. April said: "I was in shock at first, I couldn't believe it happened to Connor. He is out all the time and he knows road safety. He shouldn't have run out on the road, but I couldn't believe someone would hit a child and apparently drive off. It made me so angry. The lady who picked Connor up said she couldn't believe what happened and said she didn't sleep all night." April thanked Connor's friends and kind passers-by for helping him before she arrived
