Shocking video of tornado shows moment cows and car swept up in whirling twister

A video has surfaced showing the heartbreaking moment cows and cars were swept into the sky as a tornado battered parts of America.

Several hit the US state of Texas with peak winds of around 150 mph last week - and more weather warnings have just been issued.

The deadly twisters across the country killed one person with many others left injured.

One ripped the roof off a school gymnasium, destroyed homes and overturned cars leaving hundreds of thousands picking up the pieces.

Texas is currently confronting wildfires, with 33,000 acres near Fort Hood ablaze and more problems could be ahead for the ravage state.

Worryingly, tornado warnings were again put in place in parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama last night.

Now a new video of one in Elgin - a small city east of Austin - has emerged, with animals caught up in the whirling winds.

Storm Chaser Brian Emfinger uploaded his footage to twitter, showing cars and frightened cows carried away.

He earlier recorded a Chevrolet Silverado being tossed around, with the company yesterday stepping in to help the owner.

A big red truck couldn't escape the brutal weather with streets left full of debris in scenes of devastation.

It's not known if any animals lost their lives.

Other videos showed major damage with cars flipped and houses left in ruins.

Around 55 million people are at risk for some type of severe weather, the Storm Prediction Center said.

Tomorrow, the east of the country is expected to see 'intense' weather systems.

"Residents in portions of the South still reeling from last week's bout of destructive weather may find themselves in the path of Mother Nature's wrath once again this week," AccuWeather 's Mary Gilbert said.

Meteorologist Sabrina Bates tweeted: "Severe risk for TONIGHT.

"Storms develop in western Oklahoma off the dryline, then form into a line pretty quickly.

"Ping pong ball sized hail & up to 70mph gusts for the strongest storms. Low tornado threat as well."

More than 13,000 homes remained without power in three parishes around New Orleans.

Damaged buildings, downed power lines and debris strewn across a street were seen in St. Bernard Parish, a few miles from downtown New Orleans, in video posted on Twitter by Fox19 television.

"We had five or six houses totally demolished. There were people in the homes, so far everyone is accounted for," Parish President Guy McInnis said on WDSU television.
