Gardaí in Offaly have taken action after a video emerged appearing to show a donkey tied onto a moving car in Offaly.
The distressing incident occurred in Edenderry in recent days and caused widespread shock and anger locally and within animal rights communities.
In the video posted online by My Lovely Horse Rescue, an individual can be heard appealing to the driver to stop multiple times. The car is being driven on a grass verge adjacent to the busy Carrick link road in Edenderry.

The donkey appears to be attached to a rope by the head or neck. The other end is attached to the moving vehicle.
Numerous reports were made to gardaí who have since taken action.
They first posted to social media to say they were "dealing with an incident which is currently under investigation under Section 12 and 13 of the Animal Welfare Act."
They added that "the animal has been checked over and will be recovered with the assistance of Gardaí."
A subsequent update from gardaí confirmed the seizure of a number of other animals "with the help of Hungry Horse Outside and Donkey Sanctuary."
A statement continued: "This matter is under investigation by Edenderry gardaí. We continue to appeal for witnesses to make themselves known by contacting Tullamore Garda Station on 057 932 7600. If you have concerns about the safety of a person or animal contact emergency number 999 or 112."
Investigations are ongoing.
