Shocking pics show Kellie Harrington's childhood boxing club in total disrepair

This footage shows the shocking state of Kellie Harrington's childhood boxing club.

North-inner city man, Joe Cabrini said the Corinthians Boxing Club has been in complete disrepair with no shower facilities or separate toilets for young girls taking classes.

Joe told Dublin Live: "It’s shocking the way it is at the minute. I’m just trying to raise money. They tried to get funding off the Dublin City Council but they couldn’t get it.

"I’m a builder and my grandchildren box in the club. If we raise enough I’ll be able to do the work that’s badly needed."

Joe said scores of young girls joined the club at 2 Bella Place when Kellie won a gold medal in the 2020 Olympics.

But the lack of facilities has resulted in many leaving for football clubs with better amenities.

Coach Stephen Molloy, who runs the Little Champs Academy, told Dublin Live that they've had an influx of young girls joining the club after Kellie Harrington's big win.

"The girl's changing room can only fit about 2 people but we have nearly 30 girls in the club now so it's really hard for them."

He added: "We’ve had to refuse so many young girls and boys because we have so many members and we can’t take on any more due to the lack of facilities."

Joe launched the fundraiser hoping to improve things for the young boxers including three of his own grandchildren.

He said: "It’s one of the reasons I’m getting involved. We have to for the kids’ sake.

"One of the girls won the Dublin Championship a few weeks ago. She plays for Shelbourne as well. I’m trying to keep her in the club. We could have another Katie Taylor in the making."

Joe said that he hopes to convert the space into two shower rooms and two dressing rooms as well as a new toilet for the girls who are currently forced to share just the one with the boys.

Stephen said: "I’m from Summerhill. I’ve had young kids stop me on the street and ask if they could join the boxing club and it’s hard to say no because we live in a working-class area. The kids have nothing else to do. So it's hard to refuse.

"One of us has to stand at the lads’ toilets when one of the young girls go to make sure that none of the boys go in. It’s hard on myself and it’s hard on the other coaches because you’re trying to train the kids but you end up having to take several trips to the toilets.

"We're not asking for brilliant, top-of-the-range facilities. All we want are working showers and toilets."
