Shocking moment that 'drunken' man flings stranger's car door open and throws a punch

Shocking footage shows the moment that a man opens a stranger's car door in Manchester city centre and swings a punch at a woman sat in the passenger seat.

The incident happened on Peter Street, close to Impossible Bar, at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening (November 12). Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that officers have since been conducting enquiries and 'trawling' CCTV footage.

Driver Jack Tate, 30, told the Manchester Evening News that he had been visiting Manchester from Huddersfield, with his partner and 15-year-old son. "We went for some food and were crawling through traffic back towards the motorway," he said.

"There's been a drunken gentleman stood in front of the car. He moved to one side so I crawled past him and as I did, he stumbled back and hit my wing mirror.

Footage of the attack has been shared with the Manchester Evening News (Jack Tate)

"He started effing and jeffing, saying I'd gone over his foot, even though he had his back to me so it was basically impossible. I heard a massive thud, turned around and he was punching the back window where my son was sat.

"He started kicking the car and put a dent in the back door and damaged back light. He continued to kick and punch it.

"Then he opened the door and punched my partner in the face - it knocked her back so her legs were hanging out and he shut the door on them, before punching her again and then he scarpered."

Jack described the incident as 'traumatising' for his son and partner.

He added: "We have another two kids but fortunately they were at my mums. Seeing his mum go through all that was a bit traumatising, I don't think he's been sleeping properly since that. My partner suffers really bad with mental health as it is, so she's vulnerable as well."
