Shocking footage shows the extent of damage caused by a spate of fires in West Denton.
Firefighters were called to three incidents in the Lemington and Westerhope area on Monday evening and the early hours of Tuesday.
Charred shopping trolleys and trampolines could be seen lying in a field near Beech Hill Primary School, while a car suffered damage to its roof and tyres near Forestborn Court, in Westerhope.
One resident said they were woken by the "sound of loud explosions from flammable items being placed on a bonfire" and saw sparks flying onto the roof of nearby cars.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our crews attended three separate incidents in the West Denton area of Newcastle occurring between Monday 10 and Tuesday, April 11.
“The secondary fires took place in Lemington and Westerhope between the hours of 7pm on Monday evening and 2am on early Tuesday morning.
"All three incidents involved firefighters from West Denton Community Fire Station safely extinguishing fires on grassland or adjacent to greenspace with no injuries or serious damage to property being reported.
"As part of the proceedings we are working closely with our colleagues at Northumbria Police to help establish the source of an incident involving a parked vehicle near to Forestborn Court in Westerhope.”
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said officers were called at around 2.15am after receiving reports of a car on fire from firefighters who were in attendance at Forestborn Court in Westerhope.
She added: “Emergency services attended and no one is believed to have been injured.
“The incident is being treated as criminal damage and enquiries are ongoing.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact police using the ‘Tell us Something’ page, quoting log NP-20230411-0069.”
It comes after fire crews were allegedly petrol bombed by yobs in West Denton at the scene of a blaze in January.
Crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) were pelted with missiles, including a suspected petrol bomb and a heavy glass bottle, after being called to a fire in West Denton.
The gang of teens are also said to have prevented the firefighters from leaving the area by barricading them in with sandbags.
While footage obtained by the crews also shows a green laser pen being shone into the crew's cab as they left the scene.
Then when police were called to help the fire crews officers were targeted as the group of young people returned and began throwing items at cops and their vehicles.
It led to Northumbria Police using a 48-hour dispersal notice in an area of Westerhope and West Denton, in Newcastle, to clear yobs off the streets.
