Vandals have defaced a large section of the promenade from North Shields to Tynemouth with graffiti spouting Covid conspiracy theories.
The shocking messages, which include misinformation about the coronavirus vaccine and slurs about prominent political figures, have been daubed along the walls of the popular walkway from the Fish Quay to Tynemouth. The graffiti, which has been carried out using coloured chalk, appeared over the weekend.
Walkers in the area could be seen to react with surprise and concern at the graffiti on Sunday, July 3, which covers a huge section of the seafront promenade.

North Tyneside Council has condemned the vandalism and confirmed that council teams are working to remove it.
Samantha Dand, Director of Environment at North Tyneside Council, said: “The council does not condone vandalism of any sort and we have been informed about the graffiti along the Fish Quay in North Shields.
“Our teams have assessed the damage and are on-site removing the graffiti.”
Northumbria Police confirmed that it had not received any reports of the vandalism.
It comes just weeks after 'thousands' of nails and sharp objects appeared on the beach at King Edward's Bay in Tynemouth in another incident that shocked residents. Police launched an investigation into the nails and North Tyneside Council confirmed it would be stepping up patrols in the area.
