Arsenal's Matildas have suffered a shock defeat in front of more than 40,000 fans at the Emirates as the title race in England's Women's Super League tightened.

Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley were in the Gunners side beaten 3-2 at home by Manchester United having led 2-1 after 73 minutes.

A 95th-minute winner from England striker Alessia Russo gave United the points drawing them level with Arsenal at the top of the WSL.

Earlier Frida Maanum and Laura Wienrother had scored for Arsenal in between goals by Ella Toone and Millie Turner for United.

The loss was Arsenal's first dropped points of the season having previously won six straight matches conceding one goal.

While Arsenal still lead on goal difference from United third-placed Sam Kerr's Chelsea are also on 18 points and can leapfrog into first if they defeat Tottenham at home on Sunday.

In Saturday's other match Mary Fowler made a late substitute appearance as Manchester City won 2-1 at Everton.

Sweden's Julie Blakstad and Jamaica's Khadija Shaw scored for City either side of an equaliser by Denmark's Rikke Sevecke.

The win cemented City's fourth place, three points behind the leading trio.
