Shock and 'commotion' as emergency crews rush to scene of house fire in Mansfield

Residents have spoken of their shock following a house fire in Mansfield.

Fire crews from Mansfield and Ashfield fire stations were on the scene in Methuen Avenue following a ground floor fire at the property.

Emergency services used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one PPV fan to extinguish the fire at around 3.46pm on Monday, February 28.

Residents have said that there was "commotion" on the road

Tracee Fields, 47, who lives on the road, said: "I missed it. I wasn't in when it happened but I've heard about.

"I was in town and came back and everyone was saying 'you missed all the commotion.'

"I don't think it was a very big one which is lucky and I don't think people were hurt or anything.

"I don't think they [fire services] had to stay that long, but like I said while they were here apparently there were loads of people out here.

"It's good that it doesn't seem that the fire was that bad at least."

Beth Humphreys, 41, said: "I'm not sure exactly what happened.

"As you can see it wasn't anything particularly catastrophic - the house is still standing.

"Whatever it was it was dealt with pretty quickly and they didn't stay too long.

"I suppose it was a shock to see them here as it's a pretty quiet street most of the time, nothing like this has happened while we've been living here."

Another resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I feel terrible for them.

"It seemed like the fire service did a good job anyway .

"Thank God it only stayed on that bottom floor and didn't spread anywhere else, when it's something like a fire anything could happen but luckily it doesn't sound like it was too bad.

"I heard the fire trucks coming down and got immediately worried that something awful had happened.

"There were a few people out having a look."
