Shirley Ballas 'mortified' by Kaye Adams's Strictly Come Dancing elimination

Strictly Come Dancing’s head judge was left ‘mortified’ after Loose Women star Kaye Adams became the first contestant to leave the show. Judge Shirley Ballas said her fellow judges didn’t make the right choice.

Shirley savagely critiqued the decision of fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke on the show, which is now in its 20th series. During an appearance on The One Show, the 62-year-old was asked about the weekend’s elimination, reported The Mirror .

Hosted by Tess Daley and Claudia Winkleman, Sunday’s elimination show saw Kaye face off against popstar Matt Goss. After both celebs danced for the second time, Matt was saved by three members of the judging panel.

With three votes to just one, Matt and his ballroom partner, Nadiya Bychkova, successfully made it through for another week. However, despite winning over the other judges, Shirley said she would have saved Kaye and Kai Widdrington.

She explained: “I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes, but the quality of Kaye was far superior. I was absolutely mortified that she left, to be quite honest.”

“I love my fellow judges and we're all there to do a job but, in my opinion, that was one they didn't quite get right.”

Kaye and Kai had danced the Charlston to the bopping tune of ‘Music, music, music’ by Tereasa Brewer. After scoring a 22 for their Charlston and a 21 for their Tango to ABBA’s Voulez-Vous in the previous week, the couple were voted in the bottom two performers, alongside Matt and Nadiya.

When host, Tess Daley, asked the Kaye about her time on the show, she admitted to making some mistakes in her routine. She said: “It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high pressured situation that’s what happens, so I am delighted for Matt and Nadiya.”

The Loose Women journalist then turned to her partner and added: “The only person I am just sorry for is this wonderful man, who has just been so brilliant. It was a hell of a lot of fun, I said my ambition was to learn to love to dance and actually I have seen a whole new side to myself, it’s opened a little door.”
