Popular BBC drama Shetland is back for the seventh series. Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves the drama first aired in 2013.
The main character, DI Jimmy Perez, is played by Douglas Henshall who has been in the role since the first series. The newest series of Shetland will be Douglas's last outing as DI Perez. The seventh series of Shetland will begin on BBC One on Wednesday, August 10 at 9pm.

The series has always been set in the Shetland Isles, off the coast of Scotland, and the series is filmed there too. The stormy and rugged landscapes provide a perfect backdrop for the drama series.
Where was Shetland filmed?
Filmed across the Shetland Isles the series is set and filmed on the jagged and extreme landscapes of the islands for exterior shots. The Shetland Isles are about 168km from mainland Scotland where the interior shots were filmed.
Filming locations for Shetland include Fair Isle, Hillswick wildlife sanctuary, Wester Quarff, and Lerwick. The seventh series was also spotted filming at Lodberries, a small village near Lerwick.
The house of the main character DI Perez is filmed in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire and the police station he works at is in Barrhead, near Paisley. Other locations used include Irvine Beach in North Ayrshire and Ayr, on the west coast of Ayrshire.
Filming for the seventh series took place a year ago in August 2021 and Douglas Henshall spoke about what it was like to be filming on the stormy isles. He said: "After going there for nearly ten years, I’m still discovering places to go and see. There are so many nooks and crannies that are absolutely beautiful and the wildflowers in the summer are truly stunning. I loved the pace of the place. I really loved the sea, I loved how stark it could be, I loved the weather in all its glory. I loved the drama of the Shetland Isles."
