Sherwood GP surgery applies to stop taking on new patients but is carrying on as normal for now

A GP surgery in Sherwood has made an application to stop taking on new patients for a while, but the practice continues to operate as normal. In September last year, Sherrington Park Medical Practice in Mansfield Road submitted an application for a 'list closure', according to a document from a Primary Care Commissioning Committee meeting held in May.

That means the practice was considering not taking on new patients, not that it applied to close. If approved, it means the practice would continue to be open and see existing patients but for a short period would not take on new ones.

This is usually requested by a GP for 'breathing space' if they have sickness or absence in their teams. But at the time of the meeting in May, not enough information had been provided by the practice for a decision to be made on it, and the decision had been deferred.

The practice was asked to come back with more information. However, at present, no further information or an updated request from the practice has come forward, and it continues to operate as normal for new and existing patients.

A statement from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG said: "We confirmed the request made by Sherrington Park Medical Practice which was presented to the Primary Care Commissioning Committee in September 2021 was not a request to close the practice. The practice is not due to close and continues to operate as normal for existing and new patients."
