Shein's blue doggy dress has shoppers confused as to whether its exploitative or just for fun

Fast fashion retailer Shein has posted a video on Instagram that has stirred an online debate unintentionally on dressing up your pet pooches.

The official Shein page showed a reposted Reel of an adorable Maltipoo dog that flaunted a minty blue frilly dress, while also adorning a multi-coloured beaded necklace and hair bow clip. As the caption wrote, “Looking absolutely pawfect! @chiffonthemaltipoo @petsinofficiall”, the users flocked to the comments’ section to share an opinion of the video- or plenty.

There were users who enjoy dressing their own beloved pooch, and believed that the dress complimented the dog in the video. One commenter wrote: “This is so cute” while a second added: “Auuuuuw sooo adorable”

A third commenter chimed in writing: “So cute and she was ready for that outfit, very cooperative”

A fourth commenter recalled their own experience of having an ultra stylish doggy growing up, as they wrote: “Lmao my mom ASF she bought her dog more things than she did me and my siblings”

A fifth commenter even joked by writing: “if my dog ain’t coming down the aisle like this I’m stopping the whole wedding”

On the other hand, there were others who shared their pressing concerns on dressing your dog, which commenters believed to be severely inappropriate for various reasons.

One user emotionally explained: “Humans forget that dogs are dogs and must stop dressing them like babies!!! Give them attention, cuddles and love, that’s the only thing they need.”

A second user angrily enthused: “Poor puppies, they really don't know how much nonsense they have on them... They make them bitter with that nonsense, let them be happy animals... If they want to put on little dresses and silly things, have a child. I’m sorry but it had to be said.”

A third concurred by writing: “How awful! The dog looks beautiful without being dressed as a girl, that dress takes away her true beauty.”

A fourth alleged that dressing up dogs was a form of ‘mistreatment’ as they wrote: “Forcing animals to wear decorative clothes and various bows is a form of mistreatment. If you love your dogs, dress them only when it rains with a raincoat, and when it's cold with a coat. STOP!”

A fifth hit back by writing: ““Horrible. Dogs are dogs NOT HUMANS. Doing this hurts them mentally. This world sucks” while another bluntly stated: “it's a dog not a bloody doll.”

The dress is part of Shein’s PetsIn collection for all furry buddies, where the section offers to sell clothes, toys, collars, bolster beds and more.

In other Shein related news, the online retailer has debuted the 'EvoluShein' collection, which is said to provide more sustainable and affordable options " for customers seeking to make a positive impact with their product choices".

The 'EvoluShein' collection is reported to include ethically sourced materials, an inclusive size range as well as supporting women’s empowerment projects globally.

However, critics have pointed out to argue that Shein's announcement only further perpetuated "greenwashing" as some have described the brand's sustainability plans as a "teeny weeny little plaster over a very wide seeping wound".
