Sheffield Wednesday manager gives brilliant advice to young fan in heartwarming video

A brilliant video of Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore giving advice to a young fan has gone viral on social media.

Moore was filmed speaking to Lucas, 11, about his game after Wednesday's 3-0 EFL Cup victory against Rochdale at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening. The video was filmed by the boy's father Lee Furniss, 51, with his kid dreaming of becoming a wing-back.

Moore has been in charge of Wednesday since leaving Doncaster Rovers in March 2021. He's previously managed West Brom, winning the Premier League Manager of the Month award in April 2018 after a brilliant 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"In possession, it's about getting it and giving it easy - and when you grow into the game, your confidence will get better and better with it," explained Moore. "So the first thing you do is get it, give it, play it easy and then your confidence will grow.

"Support the ball, support from behind if you can - so when the ball goes forward you can always support it from behind. But when you lose the ball you get back in position very, very quickly - so make sure you get back the other side of your man to defend."

Lee and Lucas thanked Moore, who asked the youngster's age before the video ended. The clip has been viewed almost 500,000 times on Twitter, gaining nearly 21,000 likes in the process and a retweet from the club. Wednesday added: "Our gaffer."

Lee wrote: "I wasn't going to post this on here, but I think it shows Darren Moore in a great light, as he takes time to speak to my boy after he wanted tips on being a RWB."

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Lee added: "I only filmed it because I thought we’d forget what he said but I’m glad I did. I wasn’t going to post it anywhere but it was such a nice thing for him to do and I thought someone like that deserved the positive reaction it’s had.

"We were chatting on the way back to his car as well. He was really interested in how Lucas’ team was getting on. He was brilliant."

Wednesday finished fourth in League One last season, losing to Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals. They've made a good start this term, picking up 10 points from their first five league games and reaching the third round of the EFL Cup, with an away tie against Southampton taking place in November.

"I’m desperate for Darren to succeed, especially now," added Lee. "You can see other people on Twitter have said the same. I haven’t agreed with all his decisions, but we’re all brilliant armchair fans at the end of the day!

"I’ve warmed to him so much, he’s playing some exciting football and we all look forward to the games now, which hasn’t always been the case."
