Shedeur Sanders Shatters Colorado Passing Record in First Game With Buffaloes

With a record-breaking debut in a 45–42 win over No. 17 TCUColorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders put the entire FBS on notice Saturday in front of a red-hot crowd in Fort Worth.

Sanders, a junior transfer from HBCU and FCS school Jackson State, showed the world his talent can’t be denied as the dynamic signal-caller recorded 510 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Horned Frogs.

Now in his third season under his father and coach Deion Sanders, the young Shedeur’s monster 510-yard performance carried added historical significance by shattering the school’s single-game record set by Tyler Handsen’s 474 yards versus California in 2011.

Sanders accomplished the feat with a 46-yard TD pass to running back Dylan Edwards, one of four CU players with 100-plus receiving yards in the game, in the fourth quarter to give Colorado the deciding margin of victory. Edwards finished with a game-high five catches for 135 yards and three TDs to go with six carries for 24 yards and another score.

After months of both criticism and hype surrounding Coach Prime’s first season in Boulder, Saturday’s statement win against a team that played for the national championship a season ago will certainly send a message around the NCAA.

Not to mention, Sanders, who logged 6,963 yards, 70 TDs and 14 INTs in two years at JSU, can now move on to next week’s home opener against Nebraska looking to build on a hot start that positioned him alongside do-it-all teammate Travis Hunter as an early candidate for the 2023 Heisman Trophy.
