Premier League icon Alan Shearer has said Manchester United must immediately find a solution for out-of-favour star Marcus Rashford, calling the current situation unhealthy.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has frozen Rashford out, not including him in his last four matchday squads. The Portuguese tactician initially dropped the Englishman for the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 15th December. After the snub, Rashford came out with a statement, revealing he was open to a new challenge. His outspokenness, however, did not sway Amorim, as he has continued to exclude the Englishman from his squad.
Alan Shearer: Manchester United Must Sort Out Marcus Rashford Situation
Ahead of Manchester United’s year-ender against Newcastle United on 30th December, Premier League record goalscorer Shearer (260 goals) advised the Red Devils to rip off the band-aid.
Speaking with BetFair, the Englishman said (via The Mirror):
“They have to back Amorim [in the Marcus Rashford predicament].
“They’ve brought him in because it hasn’t been anywhere near good enough and he needs to sort that mess out.”
He continued:
“He has to be able to do what he wants, and the situation with Marcus Rashford will be sorted out, whether it’s sorted out in January, I guess for both parties will come to an agreement, but that’s part of the process of who he wants to get out of the club and who he wants to bring in.
“Clearly, it isn’t a healthy situation for the club, if Marcus doesn’t want to be there and the manager doesn’t want him there either. If that is the case, then it’s best for both parties that something sooner rather than later is sorted out – that’s easier said than done when you’re on a huge contract.”
Rashford, who came through Man Utd’s academy, is currently on a mega £300,000 gross/week deal (via Capology). Considering his performances in the last one and a half years, it is unlikely that he will find suitors without lowering his wage demands.
Rashford has played 426 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 138 times and providing 63 assists. His contract with the Mancunians runs out in June 2028.
