Amanda Holden has publically slammed Home Secretary Priti Patel on ITV's Good Morning Britain over the UK Government's handling of the Ukrainian migrant crisis.
The Britain's Got Talent judge was appearing on GMB to speak to Susanna Reid and guest host Martin Lewis about her Ukrainian Voices podcast, produced by her and her colleagues at Heart Radio, which focuses on stories and events which have crippled everyday Ukrainians forced to uproot and vacate their homeland due to Vladimir Putin and Russia's war in the country.
Amanda was discussing her recent journey to Medyka in Poland to visit a Ukrainian migrant camp on the border and revealed how a disused Tesco supermarket was now the base of operations for migrants deciding which country their future could reside in. She said: "I went to the biggest humanitarian centre (in Medyka), which is a huge disused Tesco, which is full of beds and full of people.
"It stands with different countries flags at the top and these people literally sit down at the country's flag they think they want to live in, and everyone we spoke to see it as a temporary measure before they return to their motherland. That's how they describe it, 'We're going back to our motherland, Ukraine will be victorious.'"
Martin then asked Amanda if there was a Union Jack representing the UK, to which Amanda said: "There was a Union Jack flag there and I spoke to the amazing volunteers from a charity called 'Love Bristol' who are trying to deal with it, but they said 35 pages of paperwork of which the first five questions are asking those refugees what their financial situation is, what their mortgage situation is, when they literally have a bag on their lap with all their possessions in, it's utterly ridiculous.
"Priti Patel is winning, we're not going to get many people coming into our country despite the fact 150,000 people have volunteered to open up their homes. So, I felt quite cross about that to be honest."
Susanna then said: "I know, we have the situation today where 52 orphans were hoping to make their way to to the UK being held up simply by a signature on a piece of paper. As you say, you look through some of the paperwork and it says, 'do you have any English translation of your mortgage deeds, I'm feel like I'm not sure where I'd find that, and I'm not fleeing war!"
In the video above, you can watch the moment Amanda took aim at Priti again, saying: "We're British, me and my team were looking at this paperwork and saying you'd have a right job filling out these forms and we are British, it's an absolutely appalling situation. But of course, she doesn't want immigrants does she, Priti?"
Immediately, Amanda held her hands up and added: "I'm not political, but it's made me really cross!". Susanna replied: "That is a political statement, isn't it?", before Martin said: "Politics isn't about party politics, it's about expressing an opinion and as you know, something we care about, so well done you for doing it."
GMB viewers also praised Amanda's comments, @PIMC66: "Well said @AmandaHolden...", with Ally adding: "Not usually a fan of @AmandaHolden but watching her giving it large to @pritipatel over the refugee paperwork on @gmb I’ve changed my tune @heartradiouk #GMB."
Julie Tweeted: "Well done @AmandaHolden... Priti Patel doesn’t want immigrants. As a nation we have big hearts unfortunately our government does not.", with Dougie adding: "100% agree with what she was saying about @pritipatel. Good interview I thought."
Good Morning Britain returns at 6am every weekday morning on ITV.
