Shaun O’Hara: Brian Daboll could be ‘fantastic’ for Daniel Jones

Will New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones join the elite group of young gunslingers taking the league by storm now that he’s going to get coached up by some of the top offensive minds in the game?

Perhaps. New head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka could turn Jones into a force like they did with Josh Allen in Buffalo and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, respectively.

Former Giants Pro Bowl center Shaun O’Hara believes that Jones could thrive under the coaching staff and their system.

“This offense could be fantastic for him,” O’Hara told NJ Advance Media on Super Bowl LVI Radio Row on Saturday.

“When you look at what Josh Allen does, Daniel Jones does the same exact things really well. I know it’s going to be a big year for him, I know he’s excited about it. … I know he can’t wait to get to work. He can’t wait to go out there and improve himself and improve this offense. I’m looking forward to big things for DJ.”

Jones has been inconsistent and injured the first three seasons here with the Giants. He’s played under two head coaches and three offensive coordinators and never really got into a groove as many of his offensive weapons also took turns being placed on injured reserve.

The Giants will dedicate this offseason to augmenting their subpar offensive line and shoring up their offensive personnel to fit Daboll and Kafka’s style.

Jones does have some of the qualities that Allen possesses but he’ll need to lean into them if he is to succeed. The coaches appear willing to give him that latitude.
