Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard went through waivers unclaimed Wednesday, officially making him a free agent after the team waived him the day prior.
It’s no surprise that Leonard went through unclaimed. Any team that claimed him would have taken on his existing contract, which includes $6.1 million for the remainder of this season.
Instead, the Colts will take on that $6.1 million and the rest of the contract no longer exists—outside of the $8 million in dead cap the Colts will be charged with.
Leonard could return this season to a team who needs some linebacker depth or he may wait until the offseason when everything cools down.
But The Maniac era is officially over in Indy.
