Shannen Doherty responds tearfully to Alyssa Milano's Charmed comments

Shannen Doherty

In a recent panel at MegaCon Orlando, actress Shannen Doherty became emotional as she addressed her former co-star Alyssa Milano's comments regarding her departure from the hit TV series 'Charmed.' Doherty, alongside her 'Charmed' co-stars Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan, opened up about the claims she made on her 'Let's Be Clear' podcast, alleging that Milano played a significant role in her firing from the show.

Doherty clarified that she and Combs were not mean-spirited during the podcast episode, explaining that they had edited out anything they felt could cause further drama. Their intention was to tell the truth, as truth matters, while trying to protect the fans from unnecessary heartbreak.

With her ongoing battle against stage 4 breast cancer, Doherty expressed the importance of sharing the truth amidst the narratives others create about her. She stated firmly that she and Combs stood by their truths and that there was no revisionist history taking place.

In the original cast of 'Charmed,' Doherty portrayed the character Prue alongside Milano and Combs. However, after three seasons, her character was written off and replaced by McGowan's character, Paige. In a December episode of Doherty's podcast, she and Combs revealed that Doherty had been fired due to an alleged ultimatum given by Milano to the producers.

According to Combs, a 'Charmed' producer informed her that Milano had given an ultimatum, essentially stating that it was either Doherty or herself, and Milano had threatened to sue for a hostile workplace environment. Combs further noted that Milano had built a case against the show by documenting instances where she felt uncomfortable on set.

During a separate panel at MegaCon, Milano denied these allegations and expressed her sadness over the situation. Milano voiced her disappointment that the show, which meant so much to many people, had been tainted by continued toxicity even after almost a quarter of a century. She hoped that people could move past it and celebrate the show's success instead.

Milano took to her Instagram to emphasize that she did not possess the power to get anyone fired and believed that retelling these stories years later amounted to revisionist history.

The ongoing feud between Doherty and Milano has certainly stirred up emotions among fans of 'Charmed' and has led to a renewed interest in the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the popular show. It remains to be seen whether reconciliation and a shared acknowledgment of different perspectives are possible in the future.
