Shankland in 'place is buzzing' admission as Scotland prepare for Germany

Lawrence Shankland was disappointed Scotland didn't wrap up their Euro 2024 preparations with a win, but was nevertheless delighted to score in Friday's friendly against Finland in Glasgow.

The Scotland national team are now less than a week away from their Group A opener against Germany in Munich, and Shankland can't wait to get on the plane to the continent.

"It feels great," he said after the 2-2 draw with Finland. "It's always nice to get goals for your country.

"It's been a while since I've had one at Hampden, so it was good, a nice feeling.

"I managed to get one [away in Georgia], and coming back here tonight you get the opportunity to play here at Hampden and of course you want to try and get yourself on the scoresheet.

"I think, first and foremost, you want to come through the game fit and... send us on in a strong way to Germany, so we're looking forward to it.

"The place is buzzing, and so it should be, it's a big achievement. We all want to go to the tournament and enjoy it first and foremost.

"Hopefully we go there and put a good account of ourselves and we can progress."

Despite being 2-0 up at Hampden, Steve Clarke's men allowed Finland back into the game with two late goals on the night.

Shankland shared the sentiments of his teammates, disappointed not to have signed off for Germany with a win.

Still, to come through the match without any injuries is a big plus, reckons the 28-year-old, and now the nation's collective attention can turn to the European Championships.

Shankland added: "The biggest thing is about enjoying these moments – it's been a long time since we've qualified for tournaments back-to-back, so, rightly, the crowd is buzzing and so are we.

"It's amazing to be involved. Of course, you always aim for those squads, and getting to go is a big achievement.

"Everyone is on the same boat and we're all looking forward to it."
