Shania Twain has been announced as a new judge on ITV ’s singing competition Starstruck, which will be returning for a second series in 2023.
The 56-year-old trailblazing singer will join the Saturday night show, which sees contestants become extraordinary stars for one night only as the judges size up their star power.
The You're Still The One hitmaker will sit on the show’s judging panel alongside returning stars Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford, as Olly Murs once again hosts the show.
Sheridan Smith previously confirmed she would not be returning for another series of the ITV talent show due to her own work commitments.
Starstruck launched on ITV in February this year, with 4.7 million tuning into its first episode, making it one of the biggest new entertainment commissions of the year.
The performers undergo an “extraordinary transformation” to embody their idols, with the contestant transformations on the first episode ranging from Freddie Mercury and Marvin Gaye to Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga.
The show has been likened to 90s show Stars In Their Eyes, which premiered in 1990 and was on the air until December 2006.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV said: “Shania is one of the all time music greats, not to mention a fabulous personality, so it’s an honour to welcome her to the Starstruck panel alongside Adam, Beverley, Jason and of course Olly at the helm.”
Cat Lawson, Creative Director at Remarkable Entertainment said: “We are over the moon to welcome music legend Shania Twain to our fantastic Starstruck panel.
“She is an absolute trailblazer who has collaborated with everyone from Elton John to Harry Styles. Shania will bring so much fun to our Saturday nights we simply cannot wait.”
Shania Twain made headlines earlier this year after her candid Netflix documentary Not Just a Girl dropped on the streaming giant’s platform.
ITV said of Starstruck ahead of its debut earlier this year: “Leaving their day jobs behind, members of the public will be transformed into their most beloved music star for one night only. But they won’t be on stage alone.
“Instead, they’ll be teaming up as trios who all share the same love of a music icon to give the performance of a lifetime.
“With an expert glam team to oversee their extraordinary transformation, impressive staging and a spectacular sound and light show, our singing stars will be getting the complete ‘superstar experience.’
The end of each Starstruck episode will see the winning trio compete against each other for a place in the grand final, to enter into the running for a £50,000 jackpot.
