Shanghai's airports are taking precautionary measures in anticipation of the impending impact of Typhoon Bebinca, set to make landfall early Monday morning. Airport officials have announced the cancellation of over six hundred flights at Hongqiao and Pudong airports in the city, with flights scheduled after 8 p.m. local time being affected.
In addition to flight cancellations, the city of Shanghai has also implemented travel restrictions, suspending travel on certain bridges and limiting access to specific highways. Typhoon Bebinca, currently positioned a few hundred kilometers away from the coast, is expected to intensify with winds reaching speeds of up to 151 km (94 miles) per hour by Sunday night, as classified by the China Meteorological Administration.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have evacuated 9,318 individuals from a district in Shanghai. Nearby in Zhoushan, businesses closed early, including restaurants, supermarkets, and shops, while public transportation services were suspended. The storm is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall of up to 10 inches (254 millimeters) to the eastern coast, particularly in the areas expected to be most severely impacted.
