Famous Australian cricketer Shane Warne has passed away aged 52 from a suspected heart attack on Friday, March, 4.
Former captain of the Australian national cricket team, Shane was known for his exceptional bowling abilities and is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He went on to work regularly as a commentator and pundit and had coaching roles.
He had dated English actress, comedian, and model Liz Hurley. The couple were together for three years from 2010 to 2013 and became engaged in 2011 before their relationship ended. Shane and Liz met in 2010 at a horse racing event, with both of them already divorced. After six months together Liz visited Shane in Australia where they were subject to a lot of media attention.
Both Shane and Liz lived their lives very much in the spotlight with Shane for his sporting talents and Liz for her roles in films such as Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Double Whammy. Australian news site news.com.au reported that Shane said there was “no single, clear reason” the couple ended their relationship. Shane did once say he got "jumpy" about the fact that Liz was spending time with Hugh Grant, who she formerly dated and is now the godfather to her son. He said: “I got jumpy about the time Elizabeth still spent with Hugh Grant … He is her best friend but they saw each other more when I wasn’t around so, well, you know.”
Since their split, Liz continues to live in their Grade II listed mansion Donnington Hall near the Welsh border in Herefordshire. In 2020 Shane admitted in his TV show A Week with Warnie that seven years later he was still hurt over the breakup and he still cares for Liz. He said: "I'm quite sad it’s over because I still care about her deeply and she’s a wonderful person."
The former couple had remained friends since their split and in 2021 there were rumours about them possibly rekindling their relationship.
Tributes have been pouring in for Shane, one of the highest-profile and talented cricketers to play the game. Ben Stokes said "this man is a legend", while Ian Bell said the news was "utterly heartbreaking". He is survived by his three children with former wife, Simone Callahan.
